Guess who I saw at work yesterday? If you guessed Big Bird, like both of my parents, you're wrong, but you're close. Bob McGrath! If you don't know who he is, well, that's why I work for Sesame Street and you don't. He's Sesame Street Bob!
He is 73 years old and has been on Sesame Street since 1969. He appeared next to my desk to ask a question of the other intern and I, and when he left we both made bug-eyed silent faces to each other, as star-struck interns do.
Speaking of said other intern, she is also named Rachel, and when we went to have our ID photos taken, we discovered that we share the same middle name as well. Then she suspiciously said to me, "Wait, when's your birthday?" and it turns out that even though we don't have the same birthday, hers is nine days after mine. Well, one year and nine days, but still. Coincidence central!
I also met a woman whose books I have quoted in papers about children's media, which is like an academic celebrity sighting!
That was yesterday. Today the building shut off our water in the middle of my shower, and when I left the building, I saw a little boy. Peeing. On a tree. Just right out in the middle of the sidewalk. Ew.
This afternoon I started work at my exclamation point job, the Forest Hills branch! Little things are different, and I'm surprised by how much I miss the Winchester kids. It's always tough to start in a new place where you don't know names or routines, but at least the curriculum is completely the same.
It's raining buckets again -- I was supposed to go out tonight, but the subways are flooded, so I'm doing my laundry instead!

You want coincidences? My roommate's name is Christine and she has an older sister named Carrie! I'm Carrie and I have a YOUNGER sister named Christine! This blows my mind more than the "birthdays-on-the-26-and-14" thing with Dianne and Jared!
BOB! DUDE! that's awesome. can you bring him to the 4th of july? or maybe get him to sign a t-shirt for me?
