On Saturday night, I was on the phone for a very long time with my good friend Liska, whom I hadn't spoken to in ages. During the phone call, my call waiting kept beeping. Typically the only people who call me are Marissa, Hannah and Nate ("But I thought he broke up with you," you might be saying, "why does he call you all the time?" Good question, my friend!). I knew that Marissa was at work, and Nate and I had already had our requisite awkward conversation for the day, so that left Hannah. What on earth is so important that Hannah keeps calling?!, I wondered.
It turns out that it wasn't Hannah; it was my crew of Boston friends playing Trivial Pursuit. The girls' team was down a person and was using me as their "phone a friend." The question was: "What was the name of Mulder's sister who was abducted by aliens?" Breathlessly I called them back. "I know it's too late," I said, "but I just wanted to prove to you that I knew the answer." Then they asked me another question about who used to be married to Ted Turner, and I got that one too. Because I am still the queen of Trivial Pursuit.
I caught the end of President Bush's press conference this morning. I took away from it this delightful tidbit: "War is not a joyous time. No times of joy. War is a challenging time." Well, unless it's a thumb war, that is. Thanks, numbnuts.
